Hilary Khontopp: Elko County

My name is Hilary Kohntopp and I am a teacher and advisor of Health Sciences, Bio-Medical and HOSA since 2007 at Elko High & Spring Creek High School for Elko County School District, NV. Next year I will be teaching Health Sciences, Medical Terminology, Medical Assisting, EMT and Sports Medicine. I have also coached Cross Country and Track since 2010 for Elko High School. In my prior teaching experience I taught Biology, Earth Science, Physical Science, Chemistry, Pre-Algebra, and Physics for 11 years in Idaho. I hold a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, Fitness and Wellness and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological and Natural Science. I am also a Certified EMT-NREMT, Certified BLS CPR/First Aid Instructor from AHA, Certified Athletic Trainer from NASM, and Certified Coach for NIAA. I have served on many professional teams and committees including NDOE Bio-Medical Sciences Curriculum Committee, HOSA Board of Directors, NACTE Board of Directors, Elko County District Wellness Committee, Co-Chair, NDOE Health Science Curriculum Committee, District Science Curriculum Committee, Academic Excellence and CARE Team Committees. I am also a member of various professional organizations including the National Consortium for Health Science Educators and Master Teacher Institute, NASM and ACSM Professional Member, NACTE and ACTE-Health Science & Public Safety Division, HOSA: Future Health Professionals Chapter Advisor, National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Judy Peterson: Clark County

Judy Peterson, PH. D. teaches secondary Physical Education, Health and Careers with one kindergarten class at Northwest Career and Technology Academy in Las Vegas. She has taught in Clark County School District for eighteen years and 22 years in the State of Nevada. Her dissertation included research concerning factors that may help students remain in school. Judy is a member of the Softball Hall of Fame, she has coach many different sports. Served as an athletic director and worked in many school based committees. Judy is now serving as the President Elect for SHAPE NV (Society of Health and Physical Educators) and works throughout the state. Judy’s philosophy helps steer her passion for health related fitness and excellence in programs in which she is involved. Helping others plan and promote a healthy lifestyle and support the stakeholders that influence children’s lives.

Anna Kanarowski: Washoe County

Anna Kanarowski teaches Health & Physical Education at AACT High School. She is passionate about teaching, as well as living a healthy and active lifestyle. During her second year of high school, Anna was diagnosed with childhood leukemia. During treatment, she tried to make the most of her high school years, both educationally and personally, continuing to enjoy the outdoors and remaining active. Anna loves to ski and is a former Professional Skier, has competed in the World Extreme Skiing Championships in Alaska & has skied for Warren Miller (ski movie producer). Anna enjoys spending time with her husband and two German Shepherds, hiking, biking, and boating on Tahoe are top priorities outside of the classroom. For her undergraduate studies, Anna attended the University of Wyoming, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education. She earned a Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Janae Ballingham: Douglas County

Janae Ballingham has taught PE for 19 years. Half of that time was in South Lake Tahoe, CA and the other half, 25 minutes away in Minden, NV. Teacher of the Year for AAHPERD 2013 for Southwest District, AAHPERD Teacher of the Year for 2014 and Douglas County School District Teacher of the Year for 2012. Janae is a Physical Activity Leader (PAL) Trainer for SHAPE America and serves on SHAPE-NV board and has renewed National Board Certification in 2011. Ballingham earned her master’s degree with National University with an emphasis in National Board Certified Teaching, 2016, and her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Brigham Young University 1996. Janae currently serves on the SHAPE-NV board and has served in many capacities with them (NAHPERD) from secretary to president for many years. Janae is married and has three children and loves to snowboard, mountain bike, wakeboard, and play beach volleyball.
